The district administration in Prayagraj seized benami property valued at Rs 12.5 crore, allegedly acquired through illegal earnings, that belonged to the late gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad. The action was carried out under Section 14 (1) of the Gangster Act, following the directives of the police commissioner of Commissionerate Prayagraj.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Dhumanganj, Varun Kumar, confirmed the operation and disclosed that the benami property, situated in Kathula Gauspur village under the Airport police station area, was registered in the name of a mason named Hoob Lal. Covering an expansive 5.5 hectares, the property was estimated to be worth Rs 12.5 crore.
“The administration has officially announced the seizure of this property, and legal action will be initiated against any individual found occupying it,” ACP Varun Kumar stated.
Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf, with over 100 criminal cases linked to their names, met a tragic end when they were shot at point-blank range by three individuals posing as journalists. The incident occurred while police personnel were escorting the brothers to Colvin Hospital for a medical examination on April 15.
