New Delhi: Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, a great humanitarian, educationalist and social reformer passed away on Thursday in Bengaluru. He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.
He was the founder of the Al-Ameen Educational Society and its corresponding colleges. He was also a founder-trustee of an Urdu daily newspaper, the Salar Daily. He was also Pro Chancellor/ Treasurer of Aligarh Muslim University.
Widely referred to as ‘Baba-e-Taleem’, Dr Khan ran 200 institutions under the banner of the Al-Ameen Educational Society. These include Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy, Al-Ameen College of Law, Al-Ameen Arts, Science and Commerce Degree College.
Several national and international awards were conferred on him in recognition of his services. AFMI (American Federation of Muslims from India) Award, Karnataka Rajyothsava Award for Education by Government of Karnataka, Junior Jaycees Award are some of them.
Apart from these, the ‘Dr Mumtaz Ahmed Khan Award’ was named after him, honouring exemplary members of the community.
Remembering his demise, Muslim Majlis e Mushawarat president Navaid Hamid tweeted, ”A man who showed the path to educationally empower the Muslim community & founded Al Amin Educational Movement, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, left for heavenly abode to meet the Most Gracious & the Most Merciful last night,”
