New Delhi: Jammu & Kashmir Students Association has written to Minister of External Affairs Dr S. Jaishankar urging him to facilitate travel of over 100 Kashmiri medical students to Bangladesh.

In a statement, the association’s spokesperson Nasir Khuehami said that over 100 Kashmiri medical students enrolled in Bangladeshi institutes are currently stuck in Kashmiri due to the pandemic. They have recently been informed by their respective colleges and universities that examinations will commence from 31st May. Thus, they are required to return immediately.

He said that their exams were postponed on 3rd April and they were told that datesheet will be announced at least 2 weeks after Eid-ul-Fitr. Due to second deadly wave of Covid-19 in India, hundreds of students returned to the country but all of sudden, datesheet was announced. Students are running short on time, he added.

They have to complete a 14 day mandatory Quarantine in Bangladesh also. As Bangladesh Govt has suspended air travels, students must be ensured a flight back in this critical situation. The future of hundreds of students is at stake, he further added.

Khuehami requested Jaishankar to take immediate steps to resolve the issue on humanitarian grounds & take immediate steps and make all possible efforts to facilitate their travel. He urged him to direct concerned officials to act swiftly and provide necessary assistance to Kashmiri students, so that they can attend examination on time, and they don’t have to loose their precious academic year.
