Ahmedabad: In a heinous act, a Muslim mother and her son were attacked and brutally beaten up by Bajrang Dal men.
The incident took place in Chhatral town of Gandhinagar district in Gujarat.
According to reports published in Times Of India, the victims were identified as 52-year-old Roshanbiwi Syed had her thumb, index finger and middle finger mercilessly chopped off. Her 32-year-old son Farzan suffered fractures on his hands and skull.
Both were hospitalized and are reportedly being treated at VS Hospital, run by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
According to local activists, communal tension in the area had remained high-strung since December 6, when the local Bajrang Dal take ouy a procession through Muslim-dominated Kasbavaas in Chhatral, to mark the 1992 demolition of the Babri mosque.
However, the tension escalated on Sunday night following a scuffle in the area, the reason for which could not be confirmed.
Aslam Syed, nephew of Roshanbiw said, “On Monday morning, Syed and her son were cautioned not to leave their locality. When they went out to graze their cattle, some members of Bajrang Dal attacked them,” reported TOI.
“Luckily, a person from the Bharwad community who was out to sell milk spotted them and saved their lives by taking them to their family,” said Aslam.
Chhatral police register a complaint under IPC Section 307 for attempt to murder and are investigating.
