New Delhi: Hindus especially the headman of the village in Haryana came out in defence of Khulafa-e-Rashideen mosque stoutly denying the anti-terror agency National Investigation Agency’s charge that the mosque in Uttawar village of Palwal district in the state was allegedly built on funds received from Hafiz Saeed and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). However, Ramesh Prajapati, the headman (Pardhan) of Uttawar village has asserted that the mosque was built on legally-obtained land and was funded by people from many villages in surrounding area.
“The land for the mosque has been obtained legally and people from many villages have funded the construction of this mosque.”
The NIA officers searched Khulafa-e-Rashideen mosque after they had arrested 3 men, including the Imam, Mohammed Salman, in New Delhi in an alleged terror-funding case. The NIA claimed on Monday that the mosque in Palwal, was allegedly built on funds received from LeT.
According to National Herald, Imam of the mosque, Mohd Salman who was arrested by the NIA along with two other people had allegedly received Rs 70 Lakh from a Dubai based Pakistani citizen Kamran. . However, the villagers refused to believe the NIA theory. Coming out in his support, they said that Salman was raised in a reputed family and he is unlikely to commit such a crime. Salman’s father, late Maulvi Dawood, is well-regarded among Muslims in the Mewat region who moved to Delhi more than 50 years ago and was an Imam of a significant mosque in Nizamuddin till his death, they added.
For the villagers in Uttawar, he was an authority on Islam and had the final say in all disputes in the village.
On October 3, the NIA arrested Mohammed Salim and Sajjad Abdul Wani apart from the mosque’s Imam. It claimed that Salam was allegedly receiving a funding from Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation (FIF) in Lahore which was set up by Hafiz Saeed’s parent organisation Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD).
It further claimed that “the Imam came in contact with LeT people during his trip to Dubai who went to Dubai after his Umrah. He met a Pakistani native in Dubai and started getting funds through hawala, as per the report.”It even gave him money for the marriage of his daughters.”
However, residents of Uttawar village in Palwal asserted that they did not believe on the agency’s allegations and the construction of mosque has nothing to do with foreign funding.
