Jamiat begins works on war-footing in Kerala; announces one crore interim relief

New Delhi: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (M) has begun relief work on a large scale in Kerala which was severely hit by the worst flood of the century. JUH General Secretary, Maulana Mahmood Madani has arrived in Kerala on Sunday evening to take the stock of relief works and share the grief of affected-people.

On Monday morning, Maulana Madani visited the worst-affected town Kayamkulam and distributed relief materials and food-kits to the affected-people. On this occasion, Maulana Madani also announced Rs 10 million as an interim relief from Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind and its all units. He also announced Rs 15 lakhs for the flood-hit coastal district Kodagu (Korag) in Karnataka. Maulana Madani also presided over a consultative meeting held today at the Jamia Husainia, Kayamkulam which deliberated upon methods and planning for carrying the relief activities. The meeting was attended by the office-bearers of Jamiat relief committees and Ulama and Imams of Madrasas and Masjids of Kerala. Besides relief work, the meeting also took decisions regarding the reaparing of damaged houses, removing mud, restoring electricity and plumbing etc. It also decided of distribution of utensils to those 2,000 families whose survey had been done.

After visiting flood-hit areas, JUH leader Maulana Madani said the unusual and torrential rains, and floods have caused extreme damage in every part of the state which is a heart-wrenching situation and rehabilitating and rebuilding the lives of people is huge and difficult task. Lauding the work done by Jamiat volunteers, he said they have been not only providing food stuffs but also trying to evacuate people through boats who are still stranded in flooded-areas.


Maulana Madani met flood- victims and gave them courage to overcome from this calamity. On this occasion, he also appealed to philanthropists to donate money for the relief of flood-hit people of Kerala.

JUH secretary Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi, who is accompanying with Maulana Madani, said the Jamiat has divided Kerala’s flood-affected areas into three zones for relief and rehabilitation purpose. They are south, north and central zones and South zone is headquartered in Jamia Husainia, Kayamkulam; Central zone’s headquarter is Jamia Kausar Alviya (Ernakulum district.

Informing about the relief work, he said in the second phase, we would restore electricity and water supply and for this work we need electricians, plumbers and carpenters. He also informed that 100 volunteers Karnataka, 50 each from Tamil Nadu and Bihar would reach the state tomorrow. South Kerala Zone is headed by Maulana Sufyan Qasmi and Maulana Suhail, Central Kerala Zone by Maulana Ibraheem and Afza Saith and North Kerala Zone is led by Maulana Musaab and Maulana Mujeeb.
