Mohammad Ghouse Khatoon: who stood behind her husband like a rock in struggle for independence

Mohammad Ghouse Khatoon, a volunteer of freedom movement who remained a boosting force for her husband, Mohammad Ghouse Baig, a renowned freedom fighter, belonged to Bapatla town, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh and provided shelter and other amenities to leaders of Indian National Congress like Bhogaraju Pattabhi Seetaramiah, Durga Bai Deshmukh, Tanguturi Prakasham Pantulu, etc. During incarceration and persecution of Mohammad Ghouse Baig for his proactive participation in Chirala-Perala Agitation, Padanandipadu Non-payment of taxes and Salt Satyagraha Movements, Ghouse Khatoon did not deter from the path of struggle, besides selling her belongings/jewellery to support the movement including the fine imposed on her husband. In utter financial hardship i.e. seizure of property by the Government, subsequent participation in Civil Disobedience Movement, she did not worry rather took it smilingly to continue in penny less state.

Mohammad Ghouse Khatoon, who was keen on the Khadi movement and committed to wearing Khadi till her last breath, passed away on November, 1990.
