Muslims have only 22.75% share in minority schools: NCPCR report

New Delhi: Muslim minority schools constitute only 22.75 per cent of the total minority schools despite the fact that the community contributes a share percentage of 69.18% to the religious minority population, a report released by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) said.

The Christian community, which makes up 11.54% of the total minority population, has a share of 71.96% of the total religious minority schools in India.

The Sikh community contributes a share percentage of 9.78% to the total religious minority population and contributes a share of 1.54% to the religious minority schools.

The Jain community contributes a share percentage of 1.90% to the religious minority population and contributes a share of 1.56% to the religious minority schools.

The Parsi community, which makes up 0.03% of the total religious population, has a share of 0.38% of the total religious minority schools in India.

According to the report, 4085 minority schools are run by Muslims while there are 12920 minority schools, which are administered by Christians.

Schools run by the Muslim community have a higher rate of enrollment from the Muslim community in comparison to schools run by other minority communities. Christian schools have the highest number of non-minority schools.

The schools being run by the Muslim community have more than 75% of the student population belonging to the Muslim community. On the other hand, schools established by the Jain community have less than 20% of Jain student population, while schools belonging to Sikh, Buddhist, Parsi and Christian communities have less than 30% students of the respective minority communities.

In totality, the minority schools are catering to only 7.95% of the minority children population.
