By Muslim Mirror Staff

In a saddening turn of events, Mohammad Amir Mohammad Khan, widely known as the Raja of Mahmudabad, breathed his last early on Wednesday following a prolonged illness. His son, Professor Ali Khan, took to social media, expressing the family’s loss and requesting prayers for the departed soul.

“Our father has passed away into the mercy of his Lord. Please pray for Mohammad Amir Mohammad Khan…,” Ali Khan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Raja of Mahmudabad had been in the public eye for over four decades due to his relentless legal battle to regain his heritage, which had been seized by the government under the Enemy Property Act. Among his significant assets were the illustrious Butler Palace, a substantial portion of Hazratganj, Halwasiya market, and Mahmudabad Qila (fort), with a combined estimated worth of approximately ₹50,000 crore, as per government assessments in 2006.

The legacy of Mahmudabad extended beyond Lucknow, encompassing properties in Sitapur, Nainital, and Mahmudabad itself, with a lineage that could be traced back to the 16th century, backed by Emperor Akbar’s patronage.

Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party, expressed his condolences over the demise of Raja Mahmudabad Sir Mohammad Amir Mohammad Khan Sahab, saying, “Very sad by the death of Raja Mahmudabad Sir Mohammad Amir Mohammad Khan Sahab. May God give peace to the departed soul. In this hour of grief, may all the family members get the strength to bear this immense loss,” in Hindi on X.
