New Delhi: In yet another statement which could invite the ire of the Supreme Court, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) said it didn’t care about courts as thousands of its supporters thronged Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi Sunday to press for the construction of Ram mandir in Ayodhya.

“We don’t care about the courts. A grand temple will be constructed in 2019,” Sushil Chawdhary, a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP or World Hindu Council) leader, told AFP news agency.

The VHP and other Hindu extremist groups demand construction of Ram mandir on the site where Babri Masjid – the 16th century mosque, stood till December 06, 1992 when it was demolished in broad daylight. Top leadership of BJP, RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena were present near the site when Hindu extremists razed to the ground the historic mosque built bt one of Mughal Emperor Babar’s commanders.

The mosque was demolished even as the state government led by the BJP had plegded to the Supreme Court of India that no harm will be done to the Muslim worship site.

A final verdict on the title of the land is pending in the Supreme Court. However, ever since the apex court deferred the hearing till January 2019, the hardline Hindu extremist groups are demanding from the Narendra Modi government to bring an ordinance or enact a law to build the Ram temple.

“We have no conflict with any community, We are not begging but expressing sentiments. Making law is only option for Ram temple. Movement will continue till commitment is fulfilled,” RSS’ executive head Suresh ‘Bhaiyyaji’ Joshi, said while addressing the rally dubbed “Dharam Sansad”.

“Those in power today had promised to construct Ram Temple. They should listen to people and fulfill the demand of temple in Ayodhya. They are aware of the sentiments,” Joshi added without naming anyone.

Besides others the rally was also attended by BJP MPs including Meenakshi Lekhi.

“I’ve come here to attend the religious congregation as a Hindu woman, not as a politician, as I believe that the issue of Ram temple is linked with the faith of India’s 80 percent people,” Meenakashi Lekhi, who represents New Delhi in parliament, said.

The right-wing group had approached President Ram Nath Kovind and state governors during previous phases of its temple campaign. In the forthcoming stage, it will hold religious rituals and prayers at temples and matths.

The campaign will culminate at Prayag with a ‘Dharam Sansad’ of priests and saints. The final Dharam Sansad’ will be held on January 31 and February 1.

The VHP rally in New Delhi was held two days before the winter session which begins on Tuesday.
