2019 Times Higher Education University Rankings: Jamia Millia among India’s top 25
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) improved its ranking in THE World University Rankings too, released in September 2018
New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia ranked 187 in the 2019 Times Higher Education Emerging University Rankings. The university has improved its ranking as it was placed in the band of 201-250 in Times Higher Education Emerging University Rankings last year.
The Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings 2019 includes only institutions in countries classified by the FTSE as “advanced emerging, “secondary emerging” or “frontier”. India comes under secondary emerging category of this rankings.
Overall, 442 universities from 43 countries feature in 2019 Times Higher Education Emerging University Rankings. India has improved its showing with 49 institutions making it to the list including 25 in the top 200.
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) improved its ranking in THE World University Rankings too, released in September 2018.
China remains the most represented nation in the annual 2019 listing, claiming four of the table’s top five positions with Tsinghua University topping the chart, according to the London-based Times Higher Education (THE), a global organisation that produces data, analysis and expertise on higher education.
Leading India again is the Indian Institute of Science (14th), followed by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (27th). However, both of them slipped back a place this year, largely due to increased competition.
The 2019 ranking comprises nearly 450 universities – expanded from 378 last year – from 43 countries, across four continents.
The rankings use the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings to judge institutions on their teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. But they are recalibrated to reflect the development priorities of the universities in emerging economies.
