5 Environmental Documentaries Everyone Should Watch During a Time of Global Warming Denial

In fall 2016, “Before the Flood,” produced and promoted by Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Fisher Stevens, was released. Prior to the presidential elections, “Before the Flood” was made widely available for free as a way to campaign against Trump, who espoused an anti-science and anti-environmental change campaign. The filmmakers produced it in the hope of spreading awareness and to provide the public with knowledge of the urgency that global warming and climate change brings.

The one-year mark of the presidency of Trump is almost upon us. Despite the awful decisions he has made (Paris agreement and more), this is no time for us to surrender. Whether Trump wants to acknowledge scientific proof should not stop us from looking at climate change and environmental sustainability in the face. The way we live, the companies we support, the conversations we have and the actions we take can be our form of resistance.

Awareness about climate change – its links to issues of class, race and gender – are crucial. tweet

When we speak about sustainability, waste reduction, carbon footprint and climate change, we need to know exactly what is happening and who is benefiting from this lie. Like everything else Trump and his administration support, denying climate change and pulling out of the Paris Agreement is a way to advance his own capitalist and patriarchal agenda. So before we can actually do anything, we must educate ourselves. Awareness about climate change – its links to issues of class, race and gender – are crucial.

So, without any further ado, here are five documentaries you need to get your hands on.
