Breaking religious barriers: Muslim performs last rites of Hindu in Bulandshahr

BULANDSHAHR: Rising above religious boundaries and the faith he practiced, a Muslim man has performed the last rites of his Hindu septuagenarian in Bulandshahr’s Mohammadpur Barwala village.

According to Hindustan Times report, Malahat Khan, son of former village pradhan Mohammad Anad Khan performed the last rites of ‘mukhagni’ of Thakur Jitendra Singh in accordance with the Hindu rituals while members of Hindu and Muslim communities gathered in large number to attend the final rites of the deceased.

Thakur Jitendra Singh in 1967 in the village came to stay and thereafter became like a family member, said Anad Khan. A resident of district Budaun, Singh has been sick for over 8 months and died on Monday after prolonged illness.

The mortal remains were taken to the bank of the Ganga for final procession where Khan performed the last rites as per Hindu tradition.
