Five Urdu houses to be launched in Maharashtra

New Delhi: Maharashtra Minorities Affairs Minister Nawab Malik has said that the state government has proposed construction of five Urdu houses to promote the Urdu language and literature. He said three houses have already been constructed and they will be inaugurated soon.

”I am ensured that this will be a new platform for scholars and researchers in the field and it will act as a link between Urdu and Marathi languages and cultures, between the two communities,” he said in a tweet.

In Urdu houses, various cultural programs, publication of books in different languages, etc. will be held. Urdu home library, Urdu, Marathi and Hindi language newspapers, Urdu language magazines, books will be available in the library. Training courses will be conducted in Urdu homes on the lines of various training programs run by the National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language in New Delhi, he added.

He stated that a fund of Rs 8.16 crore has been sanctioned for an Urdu house in Nanded while its construction has been completed and it will be inaugurated soon.

The construction of Urdu house in Solapur is in the final stage and Rs 6.82 crore has been disbursed so far. The work of Malegaon Urdu House has been completed and the process of its commissioning is underway, he apprised.

Mr Malik further said that it is proposed to build an Urdu house in the Kalina area of Mumbai University and a proposal in this regard will be submitted to the government by the University.

While the building of the Islamic Cultural Center at Nagpur is being developed as an Urdu house. A grant of Rs 50 lakh has been distributed for this, he told.
