‘I feel like hate won’: Muslim Women React to Trump Victory

Muslim women have been largely bearing the brunt of Trump’s Islamophobia throughout his campaign. With levels of anti-Muslim bigotry at their highest since 9/11, the USA has seen an escalation of hate crimes targeting veiled Muslim women, dramatically increasing as the election went on. In New York City alone, the community witnessed a series of back-to-back attacks in September, marked by a Muslim woman being set on fire on the anniversary of 9/11.

Now, Muslim women are recoiling from the whiplash of Trump’s victory and the possibility of the past 18 months becoming their reality for the next four years. We spoke with four Muslim women in Manhattan about their thoughts and fears of a Trump presidency. Here’s what they have to say.
