New Delhi: Faiz Aquil Ahmed Mumtaz, District Magistrate of Jamtara in Jharkhand, has renovated 118 dilapidated government buildings and converted them into public libraries in the past five months. He has inaugurated around 100 of them and the remaining ones are likely to be opened soon.

He is an alumnus of Jamia Millia Islamia’s Residential Coaching Academy. He had cleared civil service examinations with 17th rank in 2014.

IAS Faiz said that competitive exam books have provided in the libraries. Moreover, government officials also visit the premises to guide aspirants once a week.

The initial plan was only 30 libraries in the current financial year but then they increased it into all 118 panchayats of the district as more and more requests came from different villages.

“Now the students don’t need to go to Patna or Delhi to prepare for competitive exams. They can remain in the villages and do that. People from lower class and lower middle class cannot afford coaching and so they give up hope,” said IAS Faiz.

He added that the initiated was also lauded by Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and he is extending all kinds of support.

After qualifying civil service examinations, Faiz served as Sub Divisional Magistrate, Deputy District Commissioner, and transport commissioner. In July last year, he was appointed District Magistrate.

He hails from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, was schooled in Darjeeling district of West Bengal before moving to Delhi for preparation for Civil Services Exam.
