The Prophet Muhammad said: ‘Among his signs is that He created for you (male) mates from among yourselves that you may live in tranquility with them (women), and He has put love and mercy between your hearts’ (30:21) and ‘(O Believers! Live with them (women) on a footing of kindness and equity’ (Qur’an 4:19). Thus, it is the prime duty of everyone to stand together with women for preserving and protecting the dignity, sanctity and honour of women, besides countering any gender based violence i.e. mental; emotional; psychological; verbal; physical and increasingly that of rape, one of the most heinous and soul destroying crimes. Therefore, everyone need to ensure that the punishment for perpetrators of such crimes must be so strict that they will not only think twice but must also face and suffer the consequences of their dastardly deeds. Besides, it is requisite to everyone that they should not only be standing shoulder to shoulder in solidarity with womenfolk but should be leading the fight against such evil practices.
Islam always accords the women with great honour and dignity, and requires that she be treated with respect, love and attention, because in shaping the society, women play vastly integral and indispensable role with heightened responsibility to grow up the future generations lying in their laps with their tender care.
