Jamia Millia Islamia University has received a nod from the Central government, granting it permission to establish a medical college, as announced by Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar during the varsity’s centenary convocation ceremony held on Sunday.

The event was held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, where esteemed dignitaries, including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, graced the occasion.

Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar expressed her elation at the long-awaited approval, stating that she had tirelessly advocated for the medical college on behalf of the students and faculty. The realization of this dream marks a historic milestone in the institution’s journey of a hundred years.

In her address, Akhtar extended her gratitude to the Prime Minister, Education Minister, President, and Vice President for their support, which ultimately led to the successful approval of the medical college.

“Our hard work has been successful. Our dream of several years has come true today,” she said.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also delivered a keynote address during the ceremony. He proclaimed that Jamia Millia Islamia University is set to be transformed into an urban research centre that will focus on addressing global health challenges. “This should be all our commitment,” he added.

Vice Chancellor Akhtar announced the university’s ambitious plans to establish an international campus in the Middle East.

The news of Jamia Millia Islamia University’s medical college approval follows recent announcements by two other prestigious Indian institutes, IIT Madras and IIT Delhi. IIT Madras is set to launch its international campus in Tanzania by October, while IIT Delhi is making preparations for its campus in Abu Dhabi.
