New Delhi: Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind (JUH) has written to Chief Minister Vijay Rupani seeking relaxation in curfew timings for the sake of Taraweeh, additional prayers performed by Muslims at night during the month of Ramadan.
The government has imposed night curfew between 8 pm and 6 am in urban areas in order to contain the spread of Covid-19.
In its letter, JUH said that curfew timings should be pulled from 8 pm to 10 pm, so the Taraweeh prayers can be organised in mosques during the holy month of Ramadan.
”Ramadan is a special occasion for prayers for relief from such pandemics,” the letter said.
Maulana Hakeemuddin Qasmi, Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, Maulana Muhammad Rafiq Mazaheri, President of Jamiat Ulema-i-Gujrat and Prof. Nisar Ahmad Ansari, General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Gujrat, in a joint statement, have appealed to the state government that the curfew should be imposed from 10 pm so that people can perform Isha prayers and Taraweeh.
Raza Academy, a Mumbai-based organisation, has urged the Maharashtra government to allow prayers in mosques during the month of Ramadan.
A delegation of the organisation on 7 April met Maharashtra [western state] minister Aslam Shaikh and demanded that mosques be allowed to remain open in spite of the partial lockdown imposed in the state. The delegation was led by Raza Academy chief Mohammad Saeed Noori.
