Communist Party of India (Marxist) national leader Seetaram Yechuri today alleged that the communal fanatics were running amok in the country and targeting the Muslims and dalits.
Yechuri was talking at the inaugural session of the 22nd Congress of the CPI-(M) being held at RTC Kalyana Mantapam here on Wednesday. Alleging that the Narendra Modi government at the Centre was enabling the corporate bodies to loot the banks,Yechuri called upon the Left parties’ leaders to remain united to defeat the communal forces in the country.
Exuding confidence that the Left-democratic parties’ alliance can provide viable alternative to the BJP, Yechury underscored the need for unity among the Left, democratic and secular parties to provide a viable alternative at the National level. The unity among such like-minded parties alone could defeat the BJP, which is heading a government under whose rule graft and religious intolerance has gone up in the country, he said.
Yechuri said the Congress would provide direction for mobilizing secular democratic forces to defeat the BJP-led NDA government and this was imperative to further strengthen people’s struggles for the realization of an alternative policy direction for the country and people, he said in his inaugural address at the 22nd National Congress of the Party which began at RTC Kalyana Mandapan here.
The agriculture in the country was in a crisis and youth were agitated for lack of employment opportunities, he said. He also said the attacks on Muslims and Dalits were taking place on a regular basis in the country. He said adding that response of Left parties like the CPI (ML) and the Forward Bloc towards Left unity was a heartening sign. (NSS)
