Makkah Masjid Bomb Blast Case: Judgment on April 16

Hyderabad: Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge and Special Judge for NIA completed the arguments in connection with Makkah Masjid Bomb Blast Case. The judge announced that he would pronounce the judgment on 16th April.

It may be mentioned that a bomb blast occurred in Makkah Masjid on 18th May 2007 in which 9 worshippers were killed and more than 50 persons were injured. After the blast, innocent persons were killed in police firing.

Earlier, a case of bomb blast was registered in Husaini Alam Police Station. Later, the case was entrusted to Special Investigation Cell. It arrested more than 100 innocent persons and interrogated them. Later, the cell was disbanded. The then Govt. of AP had decided to entrust the case to CBI which transferred the case to NIA.

During the interrogation, CBI identified RSS activists targeting Muslim religious places. It arrested RSS workers, Devender Gupta alias Boby, Lokesh Sharma alias Ajay Tiwari, Naba Kumar Sarkar alias Swami Aseemanand, Bharat Mohanlal Rateshwar alias Bharat Bhai and Rajinder Chowdary alias Samandar and filed chargesheet against them whereas the Kingpins of the case, Sandeep Dange and Ramchander Kalsangre were declared absconding. The name of another accused, Sunil Joshi, an RSS worker was dropped from the list since his companions in the RSS had reportedly killed him.

The police presented 226 witnesses out of which 64 deviated from their statements. Lt. Srikant Purohit is also one of them.

Police has made elaborate security arrangements at court premises on the day of judgment since on that day all the accused will be presented in the court under tight security.
