Our MuslimGirl.com founder and editor-in-chief Amani Al-Khatahtbeh joined CARE for their annual convening in Washington, D.C. to partake in a plenary discussion on social justice activism for women and girls. The panel included Clinton Foundation Vice Chair Chelsea Clinton, Global Health Corps Co-Founder Barbara Bush, and Global Fund for Women CEO Musimbi Kamyoro. The conversation was moderated by CARE CEO Michelle Nunn.
In this clip, Amani argues that the biggest obstacle facing America’s advancement of women and girls worldwide is its problem of American exceptionalism. “I personally was victimized by [America stamping out activism] indirectly through our policies in the War on Terror and how we’ve spoken on behalf of so many people around the world,” she shares.
