New Delhi: Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party chief Shivpal Yadav on Tuesday said that the ”patriotism” of Indian Muslims should not be doubted as they have always been loyal to the country, Inquilab, India’s largest Urdu newspaper reported.
”Whether it was the freedom struggle or any other circumstances Muslims have always been patriotic,” he added while speaking to media persons in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi town. He called for unity among all ”secular” parties to oust the BJP party from power.
Commenting on the bid to change the name of Aligarh city to Harigarh, he said that it is not a new step taken by the BJP. ”Whatever decisions the BJP has taken are not in the interest of the country or its people,” he said.
”This government has failed. Our country has regressed due to it,” he added.
Yadav is busy with preparation for the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh. He is looking for an alliance with Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party.
Small political parties are set to play a key role in the elections in UP. Many of them have emerged for the first time in the state. Remarkably, Azad Samaj Party, All India Muslim Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party are some of them.
