Prince Aga Khan , the spiritual head of Ismaili Muslims across the world is on a 11 day visit to India. He is here on an invitation from the Vice President Sri Venkaiah Naidu. Aga Khan has over 15 million followers across the world. The Prince has been involved in charitable activities through his NGO Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). His current visit to India co-incides with the diamond jubilee of his Imamat.
As part of Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme, he is scheduled to attend the inauguration of Sunder Nursery, a 16th century garden complex once known as Azim Bagh. The entire complex is being restored under the tutelage of Historic Cities Programme. He is also scheduled to meet President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi .
He is also scheduled to visit Mumbai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad as well. In Mumbai he is due to meet the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and the Governor of Maharashtra. The 81 year old Aga Khan is also scheduled to address a congregation of 50000 people from his community.
Aga Khan has been the Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims from 1957 onwards and he is the 49th hereditary Imam.
