Saint and Fakirs: Pivotal in spreading syncretic culture and communal harmony in the country

Saints, Fakirs, Sufis etc. have been playing a leading role in maintaining/strengthening the syncretic culture and co-existential equations among the countrymen belonging to different religions through preaching in the nook and corner of the country for mutual love/respect, assimilative relations and oneness of the Almighty. Two legendry figures, Sankardev and Ajan Fakir had devoted their entire lives for spreading peace and communal harmony in Assam.

Both stressed on a connect between the God and the human beings without religious preferences, only requiring cohesion of love, sacrifice and inter-dependence which ultimately became the part and partial of Assamese culture/society. The ‘Namghars’, the places of congregations for prayer, established by Shankardev and various Dargahs of Fakirs/Sufi saints are open for Hindus and Muslims, both. Similarly, the people of both the communities collectively organize/observe/celebrate the festivals like Saraswati Puja, Durga Puja, Eid, Muharam, Bihu etc., rising above religious boundaries. This human bonding validated the saying that man was created by the god while religion is the creation of human being and humanity is the best religion.
