Sikh cop honoured for saving a Muslim from lynch mob

Singh hailed for his bravery after a video of him shielding a Muslim youth from a mob of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad men went viral.

NEW DELHI: Gagandeep Singh, a Sikh Sub-Inspector Gagandeep has been honored by the state government after his he stood up and protected a Muslim man from Hindutva (Hindu extremist) mob from allegedly being lynched.

On the occasion of Independence Day on 15th August, Singh was given the ‘Frontier Service Respect Mark’ medal by DGP Anil Rathudi, reported IndiaTimes.

Singh hailed for his bravery after a video of him shielding a Muslim youth from a mob of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad men went viral.

In the video of the incident that took place on May 22, Singh was seen surrounded by the crowd, who were attacking the man, who was found with a Hindu girl at a temple in Girija village in Nainital in Uttarakhand’s Ramnagar.
