Kanpur : The Alig fraternity of Kanpur has set an example as they conducted a fair election for Executive Committee of Sir Syed Educational Society Kanpur and elected all office bearers unanimously.
The development is remarkable as associations run by alumni of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) are generally marred by groupism and internal rift.
Sir Syed Educational Society Kanpur is a platform to help students get quality education. So far, the society has established two schools where over 1800 students are enrolled.
The society unanimously elected its five office bearers and and seven executive members for next three year term 2021-24.
Elections were held for the positions of 15 executive members. However, several candidates tied with their opponents with equal votes.
Former chief election commissioner Dr Nasim Zaidi, who is the founder member of the society, played a key role in the process.
Advocate Sharfuddin Ahmad was elected president while Vaqar-ul-Amin became the new vice president. Ismael Syed and retired professor Dr. Masarrat Ali Khan have been elected secretary general and joint secretary respectively while Taj Alam became treasurer.
The members of Executive Committee include Shahid Mahboob, Dr, Suhaib Ahsan, A.J Sami, Salahuddin Ahmad, Tanseef Ahmad, Mohd. Rashid Khan, and S. Shariq Ibrahim.
The president elect advocate Sharfuddin Ahmad, is the Vice President of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI). He is Secretary General of All India Lawyers Council (AILC) and Trustee of Empower India Foundation which is rendering yeomen services throughout the country. Sharfuddin Ahmad is also serving as the Chief Trustee of Masawaat Foundation, primarily engaged in health care and education, intensely preparing to establish paramedical institutes to promote job oriented courses and training to strengthen basic structure in rural India for the poor and needy persons.
Mr. Ahmad expressed his happiness and thanked all his fellows. He particularly thanked Election Incharge Sheikh Misbahul Haq for conducting the election fairly as well as for facilitating the smooth formation of Executive Committee of Sir Syed Educational Society.
He added that the society shall concentrate to provide cheaper and divergent education to students belonging to the marginalised section.
