Slain photojournalist Danish Siddiqui to be buried at Jamia Millia Islamia graveyard tonight

New Delhi: Pulitzer winning photojournalist Danish Siddiqui, who was killed in Afghanistan, will be laid to rest at  Jamia Millia Islamia graveyard tonight. His body is likely to reach New Delhi by the evening.

”Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Vice-Chancellor accepted the request of the family of late photojournalist Danish Siddiqui to bury his body at the JMI graveyard meant exclusively for university employees, their spouses and minor child,” the university said in the statement.

According to sources, the aeroplane carrying Danish’s body will land at 05:50 pm at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. His body is likely to arrive at his residence in Ghaffar Manzil, Okhla by 8 pm. His funeral prayer (namaz e janaza) will be held at Jamia Middle school hopefully between 9-10 pm and his body will be buried at Jamia’s graveyard.

The Jamia graveyard is reserved for bodies of Jamia employees, their spouses and minor children but the university vice-chancellor has said that an exception would be made for Siddiqui.

Siddiqui’s family has been associated with Jamia for a long time. His father Mohammad Akhtar Siddiqui was a former professor at Jamia’s Faculty of Education.

Siddiqui himself had done his schooling from Jamia, and also did his graduation in Economics and post-graduation in Mass Communication from the university.
